Schexnayder given Brownie Ledbetter Award

On Sept. 30, Charlotte Schexnayder, retired publisher of the Dumas Clarion, was given the Brownie Ledbetter Award for Civic Engagement by the Women¹s Foundation of Arkansas. She was recognized for her lifelong service as a newspaper publisher, community leader, elected official, president of numerous organizations and regional activist. She holds many female firsts, including first female president of the Arkansas Press Association and the National Newspaper Association. In her acceptance remarks, she said her mother taught her to live by the saying, “To whom much is given, much is required.” She encouraged others to do the same. She now lives in an independent living complex in Little Rock, AR.
