ACCN elects Barnes of Memphis as president

American Court and Commercial Newspapers, Inc., Arlington, VA, has elected Eric Barnes as president for 2015-16. Barnes is publisher of The Memphis Daily News, a five-day-a-week paper focused on business and politics that has been published since 1886. Additionally, he is publisher of the company’s two other weekly papers, The Nashville Ledger and The Knoxville Ledger, as well as its statewide real estate information service, Chandler Reports.
Barnes has been a reporter, editor and publisher in Connecticut, New York and now Memphis. Eric is also the author of the novels “Something Pretty, Something Beautiful and Shimmer,” along with numerous short stories. He also hosts a news roundtable show on the Memphis public television affiliate.
ACCN also elected:
• Greg Morris, president, IBJ Media/Court and Commercial Record, Indianapolis, as vice president/secretary.
• Matt Walsh, Editor/CEO of Observer Media Group Inc., Sarasota, FL, as vice president/treasurer.
• Wayne Curtis, group publisher for American Lawyer Media, Atlanta, GA, as vice president/programs.
American Court and Commercial Newspapers was founded in 1930 as the trade organization for legal and commercial newspapers. It is based in the Washington, DC, metro area. Its principal mission is to protect and promote public notice in newspapers. ACCN provides funding for the newspaper industry’s Public Notice Resource Center. It also holds a seat on the National Newspaper Association Board of Directors.
